What is a lubricant?

Lubricant is a silky and smooth-feeling liquid substance that is specially made to reduce friction between objects or body parts. Because friction decreases, lubricant improves the experience during sex and fucking. You often enjoy sex toys more, and using lubricant is indispensable with many sex toys.

The reasons why you use lubricant may differ. Lubricant can relieve the feeling of dryness, irritation, or pain if you suffer from vaginal dryness. Penetration can become much more pleasant with lubricant. The lubricant also allows you to enjoy sex much longer. Lubricant is also great to use during foreplay because a nice massage puts you in a wonderfully sensual mood.

Who needs a lubricant?

For vaginal use by women. The vagina contains glands that produce fluid to keep the vagina moist on the inside. When a woman becomes sensually aroused, fluid production can increase, making sex pleasantly frictionless. But it can also work less well, resulting in the experience of vaginal dryness. Using lubricant is an excellent remedy against this.

A dry vagina can also be caused by hormone fluctuations (for example due to the use of contraceptives or other medications) or during the menstrual period.

By using lubricant you can still enjoy your sex toy or playing with yourself or your partner.

For anal use by men and women. The anus does not produce moisture, which makes penetration without lubricant difficult or unpleasant. Lubricant greatly improves the experience. Using lubricant is also invaluable when playing (with yourself or your partner) with sex toys such as dildos and butt plugs.

For men during masturbation. Masturbating takes on an extra dimension when your hand slides back and forth over your penis with lubricant. When using masturbators (such as those from Tenga, Svakom, or Satisfyer), lubricant is also very nice and lubricant also ensures that the material of the super soft penis sleeve remains intact.

For women during masturbation or fingering. Even if you are sufficiently moist, lubricant can still make masturbating and fingering much more enjoyable due to the extra wetness and slipperiness of the vagina due to lubricant.

For couples during foreplay. With lubricant, you can give or receive a wonderful massage or rub against each other. Lubricant then provides an extra sensual experience, and the pleasure of lubricant quickly makes you want more!

For massages or if you want to have sex in the shower or bath: preferably use silicone-based lubricant. Water-based moisturizing gels dry out and are easily washed away by water.

What types of lube are there?

Lubricants can be divided into three categories: water-based lubricants, silicone-based lubricants, and oil- or fat-based lubricants.

Water-based lube: Most importantly, water-based lube is always good and can be used anywhere, anytime, with anything. It is also the cheapest type of lubricant. Water-based lubricant is therefore the most common type of lubricant.

Water-based lubricant is safe for condoms and sex toys. Especially if sex toys are made of very soft materials (such as masturbators), the use of water-based lubricant is important, because silicone lubricant irreversibly affects the soft material.

Because water is the main ingredient in these lubricants, water-based lubricants are also recommended for oral sex. Special flavored lubricants have even been developed for this purpose.

If you like some extra stimulation, you can also opt for a lubricant with an extra effect. Some lubricants have a cooling or warming effect or slightly tingling effect. You can give sex and play with toys an extra erotic dimension with lubricants with extra effect.

The disadvantage of water-based lubricant is that it dries out, which can make it sticky. You therefore need a little more of it or you have to supplement it with extra fluid or lubricant.

Due to the drying out and stickiness, water-based lubricants are not recommended as massage lubricants.

Silicone-based lubricant: These lubricants are silky soft and super smooth and do not dry out so they do not become sticky. Silicone lubricants therefore have a longer effect than water-based moisturizing gels. Silicone has a slightly thicker texture and leaves a thin film on the skin. Because silicone lubricant does not dry out, it is ideal as a lubricant for erotic massages.

Silicone lubricants have two disadvantages. They are difficult to wash or remove and can leave stains. To remove silicone you need to use a good soap such as dish soap with lemon. Simply rinsing with water will not work.

Do not use silicone lubricant with silicone toys or with sex toys made of soft polymers (plastics), such as masturbators.

Silicone lubricants are suitable for combining with condoms or latex. Many latex enthusiasts use silicone lube to put on their favorite fetish wear or to increase the shine.

Oil or fat-based lubricants: Fat-based lubricants are usually quite thick and have a buttery or creamy texture. Because they are thicker, they are often used as an anal lubricant. Penetration of especially thicker sex toys such as thick dildos and butt plugs becomes a lot more pleasant and horny.

Thick fat-based lubricants are therefore popular as lubricants for fisting. Fisting lasts well and smoothly for a long time because the oil does not dry and the lubricant stays in place due to the extra thickness.

How do you apply lube?

You can always apply lubricant directly to your skin, vagina, penis, anus, or sex toy to add extra moisture or make it slippery. This makes sex more enjoyable. Most bottles of lubricant are equipped with a dosing pump so that you can properly dose how much you use.

There are also special lubricant syringes for sale (such as our Lube Launcher). This allows you to insert lubricant a little deeper in exactly the right amount.

How do I clean it?

Water-based lubricant is easy to wash off and you can simply rinse it with preferably lukewarm water. Silicone-based lubricant is a lot more difficult. To remove silicone-based lubricant, use a good soap. Dishwashing liquid with a little lemon is a home, garden, and kitchen helper for this. You can also opt for a special toy cleaner.

Water-based lubricant usually does not stain, but silicone-based lubricant does. Therefore, prevent silicone lubricant from ending up on suede or leather, in particular, because you cannot wash them.
